PURSE
DOOR STOPS/BOOK ENDS
GOOD FRIEND Cyndi De Boer in
Nevada has designed a line of door stops (that can also be used as
bookends). They are easy to place anywhere in the home, the fabrics
go with any decor, and/or they make a terrific gift!
Heidi reports: We have two ourselves, and use
them both!
HOW
THEY'RE MADE
The brick is
padded, then covered with a sewn cover of tapestry fabric (here is Cyndi
padding the brick, sewing the cover, sampling of fabric choices
below).
..
The
synthetic purse handle with brass findings is attached securely to
wood glued to the brick, to
complete a VERY sturdy item.
It
measures 8-1/2" long x 3" wide x 5" without the handle, with
handle up makes it 7-1/2" tall, weighs 6 pounds 7.5 ounces.
A
special creation by
SPEED
OF LIGHT LLC
whose
mission is to provide unique quality products which add to our lives through
functionality, beauty and the gift of laughter. Each item meets their
high standards for quality, creativity and originality. They pride
themselves on building their reputation one customer at a time, with their
individual needs in the forefront.
Worth every penny, a
great functional item and a perfect gift for the PURSE COLLECTOR in you r
life.

This cool customer, Lama Milkweed Augustine, purchased
a great white shark tooth from us, and shared her incredible story of lifelong
courage with us in August 2007. We hope you are edified by it as well:
This is me, LAMA MILKWEED L. AUGUSTINE. The 'dying
author who speaks for the world." Born with lung disease and bone marrow
and blood diseases, this brave woman is rapidly dying, as she has been
terminally ill since the age of 32; she is now 40. Soon to receive another
porti-cath to replace the PICC line in her left arm, note the white
"claves" on the table as they are attached to her arm with dual ports
so she can be fed, hydrated, and receive life sustaining treatments. A courageous
woman born with her marrow's inability to not only absorb iron, she must receive
constant blood transfusions and treatments of iron infusion via IV now her said
marrow is no longer being manufactured by her dying body, as she goes to the
cancer center monthly to sustain her. The porti-cath will be her 3rd one and is
implanted into the chest-an internally implanted intravenous port. She is a
Catholic, earning two DOCTORATES in religion. A woman for all people; for all
faiths. She is soon to die. THIS IS THE AUTHOR. Possibly the bravest one you
will ever meet or read about.
Dear Heidi Reed;
I want to sincerely thank you
for your kindly and informative letter to me. I thank you as well for
sharing your information as a fellow cancer survivor, as my own mother was
also a cancer survivor of malignant melanoma and nearly lost her entire
foot, her leg, and very surely, her life. There is no cure for my terminal
condition, but I am a woman of God as well as a well acclaimed Buddhist
Lama who was recognized twice by the Dalai Lama.
One of my books, THE MILKWEED
PROPHESY; EPITAPH OF THE APOCALYPSE is in the VATICAN and just might
receive the PULITZER PRIZE next year. I am a Professor of religion
and a human rights activist, but if you buy any of my books, you will most
certainly learn much about me as a survivor of far worse things than
cancer of the colon-torture-forced starvation that lapsed into complete
famine. ETERNAL I.V. POLE- the initial book published in 2003,
is a true story like the above, and will change your life.
I will share the story to you NOW
about the GREAT WHITE SHARK. AS A CHILD OF CANADIAN CREE ANCESTRY
AND DESCENT FROM MY MOTHER, I DREAMED ABOUT THE GREAT WHITE SHARK AT THE
AGE OF ONLY SEVEN IN 1974. WHEN IT APPEARED TO ME IT SPOKE LIKE A
HUMAN BEING, WHICH AS A PROFESSOR, I CAN EASILY CONCLUDE THIS IS ALSO
CONSISTENT WITH HELPFUL STIRRINGS FROM THE UNCONSCIOUS. ACCORDING TO MY
GRANDMOTHER AND MY MOTHER, I WAS TOLD THAT EVENT WAS A MIRACULOUS EVENT
AND PROVES THAT I AM BECOMING A SHAMAN, WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE TRUE.
BESIDES THIS, THE SHARK IS MY SPIRITUAL ANCESTOR, AS WELL AS MY ANIMAL
TOTEM THAT ABSORBS THE TENSIONS, AS IT TALKED THE 20' GREAT WHITE SAID,
"MILKWEED, I AM HERE TO PROTECT YOU; MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS WILL
FOREVER BE HERE FOR YOU AND THOSE ENEMIES THAT CONDEMN AND HURT YOU WILL
BE DEALT WITH." THEY CERTAINLY HAVE AS THESE SHARKS LITERALLY
ATE THEM ALIVE BEOFRE MY EYES IN DREAMS, BUT IN WAKING LIFE, THESE SAME
BRUTAL PEOPLE WHO TORTURED ME, ETC, LITERALLY DIED IN MYSTERIOUS
CIRCUMSTANCES AND CAR ACCIDENTS. ALL OF MY LIFE I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO
FEEL THE GREAT WHITE SHARK NEAR ME AS BOTH A PROTECTOR AND AS A COMPANION
AND I HAVE BEEN NEVER ATTACKED. IN FACT IN ACTUAL LIFE, THERE WERE MANY
TIMES WHEN I SWAM "WITH" SHARKS IN THE WILD AS I PRACTICALLY
LIVED IN THE OCEAN AND I WOULD PRAY DEEPLY FOR THE ELUSIVE GREAT WHITE TO
COME TO ME PHYSICALLY, AND ALTHOUGH IT NEVER HAS, I BELIEVE IT IS THERE
WITH ME, BECAUSE ONE SPECIAL AFTERNOON BACK HOME IN FLORIDA THE SUN WAS
GETTING READY TO SET AND THE OCEAN WAS SERENELY CALM. I SWAM AROUND FAR
PAST THE BREAKERS AND I FELT THE ACTUAL "SPIRIT" OF A DECEASED
GREAT WHITE THAT LIVED FOR OVER SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS AND HAD GROWN TO A
STAGGERING THIRTY-ONE FEET IN LENGTH. IT SPOKE TO ME AND SAID,
"I AM ALWAYS WITH YOU, MY FRIEND; MY SWEET CHILD-OUR ONLY ANCESTOR IN
THE HUMAN WORLD. BECAUSE WE DON'T PHYSICALLY COME TO YOU DOES NOT MEAN
THAT WE DO NOT CARE FOR YOU. YOU WILL ALWAYS FIND FREEDOM WITH US,
MILKWEED---FRIEND OF THE GREAT WHITE." I CEASED SWIMMING AND
MERELY FLOATED ON MY EMACIATED BACK, AS I HAVE BEEN THIS WAY ALL OF MY
LIFE AND HAVE EATEN THROUGH A PERMANENT PORTI-CATH, OR INTERNALLY
IMPLANTED INTRAVENOUS CATHETER, AND I WENT INTO A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
FRAME OF CONSCIOUSNESS, I WAS EIGHTEEN AND A BATTERED CHILD AS A YOUTH,
BUT FAR AWAY FROM HOME AS SAID. I LAMENTED HEAVILY ON WHAT THIS
'ELDERLY" AND WISE GREAT WHITE SAID TO ME, AND I FELT A PROFOUND
LOVING EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT MORE THAN I HAVE EVER BEFORE.
NOW TODAY I HAVE PICTORIAL SHRINES IN
MY ROOM, AND IN MY OWN HOMES PRIOR TO MOVING BACK WITH THE FOLKS TO
DIE. WHEN I WEAR THE SACRED TOOTH OF ANY SHARK, BUT IN PARTICULAR
THE GREAT WHITE, I FEEL ASSIMILATED AND LITERALLY BONDING WITH THE
ENERGIES OF BOTH THE ANIMAL AND MYSELF. I RECALL WHEN I ATE THE MEAT OF A
BLACKTIP SHARK A FRIEND AND FELLOW INDIAN SERVED, ALTHOUGH RELUCTANT TO
EAT THIS SACRED MEAT, I IMMEDIATELY EXPERIENCED A FANTASM OF DREAMS AND
IMAGES AS I ASSIMILATED THE POWER AND ATTRIBUTES OF THE SHARK INTO MY OWN
HUMAN BODY AND LIVING SOUL. NOW THE SACRED ANIMAL, THE BEAUTIFUL GREAT
WHITE SHARK, CONTINUES TO REMAIN MY SPIRITUAL ANCESTOR. IN FACT, IN HAWAII
THE SHARK IS ALSO AS SACRED TO THEM AS IT IS TO ME, WHICH INCLUDES THE
ACTUAL WORSHIPPING OF THIS SAME ANIMAL. IT IS CALLED A "KAPUA,"
OR TOTEM. A HAWAIIAN FRIEND OF MINE I HAD MET BACK IN FLORIDA AS A
TEENAGER SAID I WAS A VERY SPECIAL INDIVIDUAL AND SHOULD BE CANONIZED AS A
PRIESTESS BACK IN HAWAII, BECAUSE I CAN ACTUALLY "SPEAK" WITH
ALL SHARKS, BUT IN PARTICULARLY THE ELUSIVE AND BEAUTIFUL, AND EVEN
"GENTLE" GREAT WHITE. I AM A PRIESTESS IN THE BUDDHIST FAITH, AS
WELL AS A PROFESSOR OF BOTH RELIGIONS-BUDDHISM AND CHRISTIANITY-BUT THERE
STILL EXUDES AN ANCIENTNESS AND A RARE, BUT VERY POWERFUL CONNECTION WITH
THIS VERY SACRED ANIMAL THAT IS SO OVERZEALOUSLY FEARED. ALSO AS A GENUINE
"SHARK WHISPERER" I CAN EASILY SAY AS TO WHY THESE SHARKS ARE SO
FEARED. MAN'S GREATEST FEAR IS BEING EATEN ALIVE, BUT THIS IS MAINLY DUE
TO WE AS HUMAN BEINGS, FROM A LONG AND SLOW EVOLUTIONARY PROCESS BROKE
FREE FROM OUR SUBCONSCIOUS, AND THIS IS WELL SIGNIFICANT OF BEING
SWALLOWED BACK UP FROM WHICH WE CAME. HOWEVER WHAT ELSE I LEARNED FROM THE
GREAT WHITE SHARK ITSELF AS A WOMAN OF TWENTY-NINE, NOW FORTY, IS THAT THE
SHARKS AND ALL OTHER ANIMALS OF THE WORLD HAVE NOT YET PITTED THEMSELVES
AGAINST THE VERY WILL FROM WHICH THEY DERIVE LIFE, HENCE ANIMALS AND
SHARKS ARE MORE SUPERIOR TO WE AS HUMANS. THIS IS MY STORY, ALTHOUGH
CRYPTIC AND RARE IN NATURE, OF THE GREAT WHITE SHARK; BEAUTIFUL AND SO VERILY
MISUNDERSTOOD, BUT NOW IN THE ELEVENTH HOUR, MAN HAS FINALLY DECIDED TO
PROTECT THEM-I THANK YOU, AND SO DOES MY ANCESTORS-THE GREAT WHITES.
PRAISE BE TO GOD.

LITTLE GREY MEN
Talented customer Steven has created a series of
alien cartoons with the above name, which has not yet been syndicated. We
will feature a new strip every Sunday (below). Here's his background:
|
Heidi, I've been
drawing since I was three years old, but, I literally had to teach
myself to cartoon, starting back in '98.
As for
"Little Grey Men", That's kind of a long story-- but, if you
have time...
I was living in
San Diego and I was at a local Denny's with my sketchpad, just
contemplating the irony of what I knew about the Roswell incident. I
mean, how can super-intelligent beings from another galaxy make it here
only to crash their ship in the desert, right?
Well, I
whipped out a couple of penciled rudimentary cartoons; one
depicting two aliens having locked the keys in the UFO while it was
running, hovering in the background;
and the other one showing a UFO stuck in the mud on a farm, having just
landed, with the occupants fighting over who was going to go hypnotize
the farmer to pull them out (click on the cartoon below to up-size).
In the end, I
was content in my little bubble of satisfaction when, out of nowhere,
this girl came up to my table and asked if I was an artist and if she
could see what I was drawing. I said "..sure". She laughed.
I was onto
something, I always like to say. I'll never forget that moment I made a
total stranger laugh with my art. It was an awesome feeling!
So, anyway...,
that's kinda it. Couple all that with the fact that I saw something when
I was eleven, and this is what you get.
I'm single, a Union
ironworker out of Local #86 in Seattle, WA; I work 60 hours a week and
I'm hopelessly in love with the ethereal, angelic vision
of a woman named Tracey.. Oh..., I have two cats: Rent-a-Cat
and Pi. Below is the first of many I will send, one each week, in
sequential order. I hope the viewers enjoy every one!

Strykers, about 20 of them. I passed them all just over the speed limit
and honked. The crews were all riding outside the vehicles, which is
pretty uncommon to me. Finally, I caught up to the lead vehicle and a
solitary crewman popped out of the hatch and waved... Seems I was being

Hello Heidi,
I purchased a couple sharklings
last year, am very happy with the one I kept, but drove off the friend
I gave the other to. C'est la guerre.
Your site is a lot of
fun, weird and wild, and you sometimes post customer's pictures.
I needed a desk lamp, so
I made one. Since I'm very much into alien-esque stuff, I decided to
call my lamp "Alien Artifact".

Cool
Customer Theresa in Nova Scotia, Canada made these two beaded spiders as a
gift for me, they are incredible:
She has made one for herself as well.
Here is a story she tells about it:
Last week - the end of November 2005 - there
was a pesky fly buzzing around the house (must've missed the memo that
said fly season is over), and then it disappeared. I was doing some
cleaning in my room the other day and found some fly wings in front of a
blue spider. Hmmm - maybe she made them a little TOO lifelike
!! And here's a picture of red
spiderlings in a branch of one of our trees. We thought they might
be black widows. Any clues, folks? \ |

This is a school class that received gator teeth
& skutes, and an upgraded gator skull than the one the teacher
purchased. Nice to see such teachers that help children above and beyond
the call of duty:
Dear Glenn,
What wonderful gifts!! Thank you so much! Your package arrived
today and I opened it first thing when I got home. The skull is
fantastic! I know it's going to make a major impression with my
students. They know we are going to investigate reptiles next week
and that I have something special planned, but they have no idea just how
great the surprise is. The fossilized skute you gave us fits
perfectly into our study of the history of reptiles and how successful
they have been, changing little over time. A perfect gift. How
did you know? And the teeth! I'm going to send a tooth home
with each child when we're done and I know they are going to be very
excited. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. I thank you in
advance for my current and future students. I wish you and your
family well. You have chosen a wonderful path in life. Thanks
for helping me to touch the lives of children a little more deeply.
Please know that your generosity
makes a difference in children's lives. Hope you continue to live a fulfilling
and joyful life.
Sincerely,
John Ecklekamp
St. Catherine's Montessori School
-----------------------------------
We are very glad that the
skull pleases you and that the goodies will be put to good use. Its our
intention when we do things like this that the items will be used to the
fullest of their abilities. You would be surprised how many donations we
make and never hear back from the recipient ever. Sometimes I get the
feeling that our donation just ended up in a private collection.
Yet, at the same time we
get many classroom pictures and thank - you's from the students. These
we publish on our cool customers pages. It makes the picture complete.
But in the end we feel better for what we did.
I spent many years in the
classroom environment, and know only too well the thankless, thoughtless
people out there that didn't consider what I was doing for their
children. Teachers are not baby sitters, contrary to the popular
opinions of many in our respective communities.
Please excuse my long
tirade about the lack of respect toward fellow teachers, but at times I
do have a relapse, then remember why I got out of the educational field.
Enjoy, and if ever we can
be of help again please don't hesitate to ask.
Kindest Regards,
Glenn & Heidi Reed

Tom in Cupertino, California bought numerous alligator teeth from us to
replace wooden carved teeth in a Freshwater crocodile head (Crocodylus
Novaeguineae) sculpture he purchased in New Guinea, it came from the Sepik
River. These decorated skulls are used in ceremonies in place
of traditions such as head hunting which was banned in the 1960's but
documented as still occurring in the late 1980's! The skull is 33
inches long and
has been embellished
with shells.
It took a stack of paperwork to clear customs,
as saltwater crocs are endangered and customs had to make sure this was a
freshwater species. Imagine this
behemoth in their 500 square foot apartment!

Hi Heidi, I got a Great
White tooth from you a while back. I was going to have a goldsmith do a
cap with an octopus on top. The cost proved prohibitive. I got in touch
with a premiere Makau (the old Hawaiian fishhook) carver and had him do a
traditional Hawaiian lashing. I love it it's more natural than a hunk of
gold on top. Take a look. Mahalo,
Patrick
We think it's a great design too,
Patrick. Thanks for sharing, and enjoy your new heirloom! |
Our
friend Earl in western North Carolina has a serious hobby of photographing
ITTY BITTY rocks and crystals that he collects. It takes a special
kind of guy! Here's his description:
The set-up with a film camera is a bear.
Look at this mess...That 's
a Minolta Maxxum 5000 with 3 extension
rings and a Prinz bellows attached. The lens is a Voss 50mm enlarger lens.
All of that is sitting on a focusing rail mounted on the tripod.
BUT the results are worth it.
This is an anatase crystal in mica, came from about 18 miles from here. The
crystal actually measures 2.5 x 4.5mm or about 1/10 x 3/10 inch.
And here's his website. Once you choose to
load slow or fast, choose "My Rocks", and anything else that you
fancy! Thanks for sharing, Earl.

shark tooth necklace he wanted...and just got it!
He asks: "Excuse the model but the
PRODUCT LOOKS GREAT !" No, we think it's the model that makes
the necklace.
Wear it in good health, Jim. Here's what
he wrote when he saw himself on the website: Had no idea
you guys would do that, just got enthused, took the pic and thought the
necklace showed well. First problem is with the cops, this pic is
only a little better than the one on the P.O. wall but maybe they will see
I'm hiding in MI. Secondly was having a BAD (no) HAIR DAY and don't have a
rug to put
on. Maybe can borrow your mink stole that you torment the kids with.
I could picture that stunt and sure got a chuckle. Poor kid was probably
scared ----less ) It's ok that you put the pic up,
just surprised in that the purchase wasn't significant except in the value
to me. Geez even wore it to bed last nite, middle son was concerned I'd
wake up dead in a pool of blood from slitting my throat. Fooled him,
survived. Thanks again, still like it. Jim |

This is Linda and Charles, customers that came
to our home and had a field day in the jewelry! Linda so resembles
Glenn's grandmother it's uncanny. Behind them are our original oil
paintings of parrots we treasure by Lew Genge of Nevada. |
The significance of this photo is an example
of our Third Generation of loyal shark enthusiast customers/friends,

Superb Painting of Running Deer, by Tamara
Geddes |
95th birthday party in
Nevada
"Running
Deer"
was born in 1909 on the Crow Reservation in Montana. He's been active
in both Native American and veteran affairs, having served in Europe during
WWII.
A drum
ceremony was performed for his birthday by members of the Crow, Cherokee,
Ojibiway, Chumash and Southern Paiute tribes
A weekly visitor to our
Nevada store, quite a friend to
have - Native American, former pilot and actor, now an artist and all around scalawag
- we look forward to every visit. But don't get on his bad side
- you're liable to get scalped! Below is his picture taken in 2001 in our
store
|
Jack
Kreis, known as Running Deer to his friends, was recently painted by
artist Tamara Geddes who received accolades for her work, though the 95
years of accumulating experiences and wrinkles is still the original work
of art. We're proud to call him friend. He recently celebrated
his 95th birthday in this world. Experiences include being a war
veteran, pilot, actor, proud leader of Native American causes for the
Paiute Tribe, to name just a few.
Below, Glenn with Running Deer...
With his birthday card:

Running Deer and his savages, bearing peace gifts to the store we had in Boulder
City (we were getting ready to move back to Myrtle Beach, 2002)..don't just go away mad, just
go away, huh?...also his awesome taste in art in his home, plus a python skin
that's I-don't-know-how-many-feet long - thanks for the honor of seeing your
treasures, Running Deer! "Missing you all" just doesn't cut it.

11/1/09 Reminiscing about Running
Deer
I will start with some very basic
knowledge and thoughts that I have and know about Jack and then the
longer stories of our time together as Heidi and I recall those many
visits to our shop in Boulder City from March 1999 thru Oct 2004 for his
birthday visit.
From what we know Jack was born the second
of May 1910 on a Crow reservation in Montana and died Nov.10th 2007, in
Boulder City. We know that he was cremated and his ashes were spread
around Native American territory, but not just where. He would
have made him 97 years old. He had strong ties to Kentucky, Indiana,
possibly attended the university of Kentucky, went to aviation school in
Dallas, TX. was a pilot for TWA, was also a pilot as a volunteer with a
group called American Field service volunteers in the late 1930's thru
1945 I think. He told us that he served in Europe during WW II .He was a
movie stunt man, actor, stand in double, played in several John Wayne
movies, played a pirate in one movie, I can't remember the name at the
moment, and was a very close friend Lucille Ball, who's son little Ricky
lives in Boulder City, and was a very dear close friend of Debbie
Reynolds.
In fact Debbie for years would drive out
from Vegas on his birthday in her big limo and bring his a cake. I
understand that this use to cause a real stir in the neighborhood when
this happened. There were several pictures of the two of them on his
walls at his trailer.
I have often wondered what happened to all
his stuff, if there was no family that he had contact with to claim it
all.
Jack impressed us the first time we met
him at our shop as a very caring and sharing person. He had read about
the opening of our store on main street and saw us on the local TV
station explaining all the weird stuff that we had and the reason why we
were locating here. Which wasn't the real story that the whole community
was told.
Jack ,
as we learned later was the unofficial greeter from the mayors office,
as he and Mayor Bob were very good friends and Jack would do his
bidding, so as to protect the mayor in case things went wrong and this
way he wouldn't be embarrassed about any contact himself. Bob was a real
user as we would learn over the next several years, and was not to be
trusted. Yet, Jack trusted and believed in the good of all people and
looked beyond the political aspect of people and their gamesmanship. To
this day, I never did figure which party other than "MOTHER EARTH
" that Jack belonged to.
I always felt that Jack's convictions
toward the earth and it's preservation was truly not only his religion,
but his politics. He really loved this Earth, and did what he could to
help save.
When the political machine got started to
but a road block to the new Hoover Dam bypass, that will eventually kill
the town of Boulder City as we know it. Jack got the local Indians and
many tribe through the 3 state area to voice their concerns as it
related to them. Please check out this link about the bypass and you
will see why we were all against it.
You will better understand a lot about
Jack and who he was.
The bridge project got real nasty at the end
as the mayor played us all for suckers by leading us to believe that he
was on our side, when all he was doing was gathering information for the
other side. This really burned Jack to the point that he had nothing to
do with Bob after this. Not until Bob put on this big Birthday bash for
him and the whole town basically turned out for this one. Jack had a
real nice relationship with the community as he was always getting
involved with project to help any worthy cause.
That is why he was so involved with the
St. Judes program for so many years. He would donate many hours there
in exchange for merchandise that he could donate himself to several
tribes throughout the 3 state area of Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. It
didn't matter which tribe needed help, he was always there to do what he
could. He would gather blankets by the hundreds for all the resale shops
in Vegas and the surrounding area.
Yet, his biggest score was a 40 ft
trailer load of shoes for the tribes. The sad part of this tale is that
the shoes turned out to be store sales samples and all were left
shoes only. Nothing of any use for anyone to wear. When word got out
that this company had taken a big tax write off for the donation, Jack
put the heat on them and they then donated several hundred pairs of
shoes to him. Only this time Jack had a long list of particular sizes
and styles of what the tribes really needed. He didn't take crap from
anyone when it came to messing with his people .
Jack often spoke of the Southern Paiute
Tribes as being his people of choice as they needed his help the most.
I use to joke with him all the time about
his being a " REAL INDIAN ". I would say to him , " How
can you possibly be a real Indian when you have this polish/German name
of Kreis. I don't think he was ever able to explain that one to me. Yet
there was never a moment that I didn't believe in his convictions when
it came to the Indian nations. This man was a true believer that we
whites had done them wrong and would to his dying day defend his people
to the last breath that he would draw.
It was with amusement that I teased him so
about all the "WHITE MAN INDIAN TRINKETS" that he would make
and sell from his trailer when he had visitors. They would buy this
stuff by the box full, because of all the stories that he would attach
to them. It's was so pitiful the Bull stories he would tell these
people. After a time I came to see Jack as a powerful , very
insightful person that you just enjoyed his stories for they were
and understand the man for what he was. Here was a very compassionate
person that give you the shirt off his back if need be. Sometimes
basically because it wasn't even his shirt. HA HA. Jack
"Running Deer" was a special person during a very special time
of our lives.

This
is the work of our cool customer Sandra who took our website photo of our
sunset (see the "About Us" page) and did a painting of it.
See the photo below the easel to show what she was working with.
Lovely stuff, Sandra!
Here is another painting of winter trees...
And the fun Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart
Club Band mural she did - That's Sandra waving, she's NOT part of the
mural (smile). Thanks for sharing your talent, Sandra!

This is "The Teacup Club" for ladies to enjoy the finer
things of life - their friends! Our Cool Customer Gina purchased a
quantity of jewelry pins we make with mini teacups on them that were a
smash hit! Thanks for sharing, Gina. May you enjoy many more
tea parties together. |
Bet
this is the first Hula rat you've ever seen? Compliments of good
customer Kathryne...

Here are Ibi and Wysi, more than just pet rats
to customer and friend Kathryne. Ibi recently passed away from
mycoplasma causing respiratory infections, I'm sure Wysi is missing his
partner in crime. We're thankful for critters like these that warm our
hearts even with their short lives. |
Cool customer b0b gave us this
insight into why he bought three of our Taylor miniature guitar tac pin items of
jewelry that he will be keeping and giving away:
One of our friends and
financial advisors plays guitar, and has a band.
My wife and I saw on TV the
documentary on the Taylor 'Liberty Tree' guitar the other night.
We both were very touched.
Taylor 'Liberty Tree'
guitar.
Made from the last 'Liberty
Tree''
Thanks, b0b,
amazing what one last question to a customer can mean.

This is Felix, who purchased one of our tuxedo tailcoats to wear in the American
Visionary Art Museam's Kinetic Sculpture Race - how unusual is that! More
power to you, Felix, hope you had a blast! And by the way, here's another
of his hobbie, making giant bubbles...not to mention great pictures!

Here are two long-time (heaven forbid I say "old") friends of Glenn's
- Hank and Grace. Grace is responsible for Glenn getting into the shark
tooth biz! She tirelessly walked Myrtle Beach picking up fossils way back
in the early nineties (smile), found Glenn's shop, found he was a guy with a
gift of gab and shared her knowledge of local fossils with him...so started a
friendship with Hank and Grace that has weathered the years. Here they are
with Glenn (first at our shop before it closed in December), then in front of our new house near Conway SC on Christmas Day 2003. |
Our customer Trevor and his mom have this to say to explain the photo here...
This is my son Trevor Berry, a 6 year old boy that has been collecting
rocks since I can remember.
His interest grew when he was 3 years old and now his collection is
getting bigger. This is Trevor with some of his favorite rock, jewels and
fossils. He loves to play and of course loves to go to WHERE ON EARTH.
"We are very lucky to live only 5 minutes from WHERE ON EARTH,"
because it is the best store on earth "Trevor says. And I have to
say Glenn and Heidi Reed are the nicest people you can meet and we are very
lucky to have them here in Myrtle Beach.
|
This is Dr. Pete, a chiropractor/acupuncturist from NC that enjoyed our store.
Besides being good at his profession, Pete x-rays shells and sells them as fine
art photographs. Here are some of the matted prints on temporary
display in our store, and below is a link to his website where you can purchase
them directly from Dr. Pete! What a find!

Here's Parker at his PIRATE BIRTHDAY PARTY with the cool SHARK JAW that his
favorite Aunt Jill and Uncle Mike gave him - the hit of the party! But
Parker is smiling too much to look like a fierce pirate just now. Avast,
Parker, fill the treasure chest! |
This is Brian who just purchased our set of moose horns, though he's not sure if
he'll display them or carve them. This is one happy man! |
This is Dalton (believe it or not, he's only FIVE years old, 50" tall, 100
pounds all heart! Glenn made him this megalodon necklace on a chain that
suits him well, now he's the Mr. T-Jaws. |
And here's his sister, Heather who certainly couldn't be left out of the
fun! Glenn wired this special megalodon necklace for her too. What a
great visit to the beach!

This is a MYSTERY item brought in by our customer Doris - WHAT IS IT?
We're guessing it's a Victorian utensil holder of some sort, Doris thought it
might be a urinal for a leprechaun, other opinions
we got were: A pipe holder, a bed pan for ailing gerbils, a gynecology
utensil receptacle, and a bath oil container...
MYSTERY
SOLVED: Because of the word "Selb" in the backstamp (third
photo), I did an internet search and found the town of Selb in Germany is where
this type of porcelain is made. An expert in that town informed me that it
is a circa 1953 style of a flower bud vase by Heidenreich called a "duck vase"
(Ente vase) because of the unusual shape! We're glad to have been part of the fun!
|
This is our customer Ken with Glenn. Ken acquired a huge arrowhead
collection from a lady here in Myrtle Beach, this is only a small portion of it,
he's got some beauties there!
|
This customer (Lisa) whose friend Louise has a book to be published soon
"Grace by the Cup", took the custom book brooch I made for her and added a
tiny actual book cover that matches her friend's book. Clever!
|
Our customer, Gail Hawthorne, makes greeting cards of floral
blooms such as the iris you see here - AWESOME!
|
Here's our latest young customer, Hunter, that was introduced to our mink wrap
in Glenn's usual "terrorist" manner - he clipped it to Hunter's shorts
- when Hunter caught sight of what was "tailing him" he took off
screaming around and around the store, with the family following behind trying
to catch him! Needless to say, it defined our day! He did make
"friends" with the mink later, bribed with a sucker of course!
|
This is Joey, one of our loyal little customers, his Mom brings him in almost
every week for a dinosaur jelly pop at the very least. I'm afraid what
would happen if he didn't get to bite those dinosaur heads off every week!
He's showing off his new T-rex t-shirt for us today, I'm not sure which is more
fierce, Joey or the T-rex!
|
This is Maverick, who owns 7 of these 1948 Anglia Streetrod cars. He shows
this one and even drive it a bit. He also owns a replica of GrandPa Munsters "Drag
u la" coffin race car (a real head turner), an original 1880's Horse Drawn
Hearse in mint condition, and a 1976 Corvette Stingray, among others.
|
Surprise, Glenn! Bet you can't guess who I know? And I was told it
was a MUST that I stop and see you. That was a direct order from MISS
GRACIE...wife and Leader of the Haskin home, Castile, New York. (This is
Carol Bruyere who lives just a couple of doors down from Gracie).
Gracie is responsible for the addition to the fossil section of Sharks Tooth
Cove in 1990 and the consequent success of our business since then.
Through the trials and tribulations, Glenn took an immense amount of *&%#@
(what he's holding), but finally he understood what Gracie was trying to tell
him, and he THANKS her from the BOTTOM OF HIS HEART. Thanks to you too,
Carol! |
This is Tom & Rosemary with their two children, Eric (the anorexic, just
kidding) and Erin (shark bait..long story!) They were previously customers
of Glenn when he had his store here in the 1990's, of course the children are a
little bigger now!
|
We set up a great display of our Weird Museum items, another of gemstones with
finished jewelry of the same gems, another of identified fossils, and a fourth
of just jewelry available in the store, as part of the Shell Club show in the
Inlet Square Mall here in Myrtle Beach. Glenn brainstormed the creation of
this new alien that debuted here, creating an instant photo op for many new
customers. See the "Latest Travels" pages for the rest of the
Shell Club Show that was most interesting!
|
Our latest, cool, REPEAT customers from Glenn's old shop back in 1994 visited
our new shop today! (Feb. 9th, 2003), whose names we can't mention because the
AUTHORITIES may still be looking for them (just kidding!). Thanks for the
visit!
|
This is Glenn with our newest COOL CUSTOMER - Jade, who is 7, found when he got
home from our shop that he had one more shark tooth than he had paid for.
So he came in with his family and presented Glenn with the dime and 'fessed
up. Oh, so it's you! Glenn said...I KNEW one was missing because I just
counted them last night (there must be 200,000 teeth in the bin). I think
Jade saw the twinkle in his eye and caught on to the spoof. He was well
rewarded for his honesty. Wish all our customers were like you, Jade!
|
Here's what our cool customer Robert from California made -- a garden
bench using shark tooth fossils as accents all around - I called it the
"Bite Me Bench".
|
This is a poem written by one of the young men from the Joanitis Home
group of young men that "ransacked" our shop with their gift
certificates last Christmas. We had as much fun with them as they
did! We're looking forward to their visit this week again! Two
thumbs up to you guys!
|
Above is our cool customer and friend, Danielle, a professional photographer who
used to work for the Venetian Casino here in Vegas, now living in the heart o'
Texas. She happens to be wearing one of my jacket designs for her
Christmas picture this year - GREAT JACKET, DANIELLE!!!

Sharks Help Out at Ground Zero
(below) Our
cool customer, Beth Nugent, sent us this photo of her and her team mates who are
a PROFESSIONAL WOMEN'S FOOTBALL TEAM in the Big Apple. You can read
more about them at www.nysharksfootball.com.
SHARKS Hoo-rah!
"the NY Sharks took some time to serve and
prepare food for the emergency crews at Ground Zero on Sunday, October 28th at
Nino's in Lower Manhattan. We met some wonderful people and dug in... whether it
was rolling meat balls, breaking eggs, cooking, or serving food. It was a very
gratifying experience for us all!" - Dana Sparling (tight end)
|
Our dear friends-who-started-out-as-customers, Rainer and Nancy,
FINALLY DID IT! We got this email at 3:32 a.m. November 7th - what
an all-nighter! A Vegas special! Congratulations, you giggling
kids! And here's Rainer's latest watercolor as well, Desert Dream.
We cannot describe the exceptional work they have hanging in their home, all by
Rainer. We salute you special people!
|
Here's my favorite little person, Emma - who started out as a customer and stole
our hearts! Her family just moved to Texas, and things have not been the
same since. She's holding our Hunka Burning Love Gorilla stuffie.
Love ya Emma!
