CZECHOSLOVAKIAN ANTIQUE BUTTON JEWELRY

BROOCH PINS by Heidi

The central piece in each brooch is a 1940's Czechoslovakian Glass button.  Note a beautiful iridescence in most.  Some are inset with Austrian Crystals, some inlaid with real gold.  These techniques were far ahead of their time.

A sanitarium in Indiana imported the flat-backed buttons made by a Czech family.  The patients made a unique line of wire-wrapped jewelry using the buttons, which were sold to offset the costs of the sanitarium, and it was therapy for the patients.  In 1963, the sanitarium closed, and the button inventory was purchased by a local couple.  They sold button earrings for 35 years until we found them while we were exhibiting at the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival.

We purchased most of the inventory, since they were retiring.  Heidi then enhances the buttons with vintage jewelry that she cuts apart, mounting them on polished brass settings (reproduction Victorian) so they are truly one-of-a-kind.  Each brooch comes with an information card.   Start your own "heirloom collection".
