Hatpins of antique beads-Austrian crystal, hand painted beads, millifiore, & cloisonné.
Hatpins were used extensively in days gone by to keep ladies' hats in place. Now, though some still use them, they are often collected as antiques or just a beautiful accent, displayed in special hatpin holders, flower vases, added to plants, or displayed in vintage hat collections.
Use your imagination! Some shorten them and put one or two through a jacket lapel or a loose weave scarf. Some young girls stick one in the side of their vanity mirrors to reflect in the mirror. Other young girls are instructed to thread a short hatpin through a sleeve as a weapon. Formidable indeed! Ladies did used to use them against "fresh" gentlemen on the subway!
Ours are vintage beads on new shafts, 8" long (unless specified), with end protectors included. You may cut them down as small as you wish with a nippers by cutting diagonally to the shaft to create a new point. *Note: our hatpins are one of a kind unless specified otherwise, though you can inquire if we have more of a particular bead.
