WORLD TRAVEL This trip occurred because we sold our pair of fossil cave bear skeletons to a collector in Melbourne, Australia in September. We crated and shipped the bears ahead, then flew there in October and put them back together for him at no charge. He kindly put us up in a private apartment in Melbourne for a week, then flew us to Tasmania, down to Bruny Island where he owns extensive property. We stayed in his lodge there for several days while we were shown around the island to see his various properties - amazing. Then we had use of a van for as long as we wanted to see Bruny Island and Tasmania before we flew back to Melbourne and continued our trip. What an experience. |
SOUTH of MELBOURNE to the 12 APOSTLES ISLANDS 10/15/17 |
|||||||
The Ocean Road from Melbourne, south to the Southern Ocean and then west to the 12 Apostles was so beautiful. Red craggy cliffs, blue waters and lighthouses.

We stopped at a lookout point to enjoy the view. Another tourist took our photo. A rare photographed laugh on Glenn's face
|
APOLLO BAY Cafe 153 on the Ocean, stopped for lunch, with a great menu of choices. |
There was a beautiful park across from the cafe, closer to the ocean. Flower similar yet different from what we know. |
Wave art was cool, advertising the Great Ocean Walk here at Apollo Bay
|
Wood art installations throughout the pathways of the park, octopus arms, faces, platypus, whales and other animal forms gracefully carved in totems. |
|
Even the base of the graceful bench was carved full of whales
|
Continuing on the Ocean Road, sheep and cow farms nestled into valleys
|
The rugged cliffs at the edge of the Southern Ocean just to our left, all along the way |
APOSTLE ISLANDS 10/15/19 We flew on the helicopter over the Apostle Islands with "12 Apostle Helicopters". Great service! |
Readying for take-off in the helicopter. So exciting. First aerial view. |
The view is simply amazing. |
Sweeping views of the islands and the countryside and town and ocean. |
There used to be a stone bridge that has since fallen in. They are deterioraating over the years |
Heading back to the helicopter pad |
Last views, a flight of a lifetime. |
Glenn coming back from an identical trip in the "black helicopter" |
Our first view of a flock of cockatoos and Galah parakeets, and a black and white magpie with their distinctive "caw" sound |
