CARVINGS
DOUG SMITH COLLECTION Douglas Smith is an extremely gifted artist that makes his home in remote Northeastern Alaska. Sales of his carvings allows him to support his lifestyle in Alaska. Doug said he "looks like Santa Claus most of the time". Photo 6/19/12 in his front yard with his two killer Chihuahuas. We commissioned this collection after we met Doug at the Anchorage Saturday market. Being Alaskan but non-Native, Doug can legally carve fossil bones legally acquired, but not modern marine mammal parts (only Native Eskimo can). All references to whale, walrus, etc. are FOSSIL mediums that are used. His pieces are not just beautiful, they are structurally sound, pieces bolted into place where needed and perfectly balanced. We are proud to share this collection with you for sale. |
