HERKIMER DIAMONDS
Herkimer, New York

From a Herkimer, New York State mine.  Double-terminated (points at both ends) diamond quartz crystals formed 500 million years ago under the Cambrian Sea (now NY State).  Water formed pockets in deep-sea rock.  Silica filled these "vugs" which grew these crystals, such a high quality quartz that the mine indeed calls these "diamonds".  You can go and mine for yourself too!
