RICK
STRINGER
SHARK JAW MAN
![](Photos%20Shark%20Jaws/rick10_small.jpg) |
Biography
Rick is a semi-retired attorney (AND drummer
in a band) living in the
Charleston SC area with a lovely wife, children & grandchildren who
approached us via email to trade his smaller, better great white shark jaw
for our bigger "Mr. Ugly" great white shark jaw. He had
been collecting shark jaws for years, and enjoyed catch & release
fishing for many years.
We not only made the trade, but took Rick up
on the offer to start prepping some 4000+ shark jaws we had recently
acquired that needed re-soaking, shaping, identifying species, etc. to be
able to sell them along with our other jaws. Here is just half of
the jaws we had unloaded into a semi container, waiting to be
processed/reworked in October of 2011.
![jaw-bldg.jpg (165499 bytes)](Photos%20Shark%20Jaws/jaw-bldg_small.jpg)
Rick did a superb job on the jaws over the two
years, improving
his skills and his choice of tools and supplies exponentially along the
way. Here's a list of the species shown on our site for sale that he
has reworked:
Blacktip, Blue, Bramble, bull, copper, dusky,
galapagos, goblin, great white, hammerhead, hemipristis, lemon, mako,
nurse, sandbar, shark ray, six gill, silvertip, silky, spinner, spottail,
thresher, tiger, white tip reef, zebra shark jaws (photo examples below.
He discovered that his real passion was
working with shark jaws as a second career. So we offered to set up
a web page to offer his services. If you have a jaw that needs
work, contact him directly at:

JAW PREPARATION
The process in cleaning and preparing a jaw
is not as easy as some suggest. An ant hill or even flesh consuming
beetles will not work. The only way to properly prep a jaw is to remove
ALL of the flesh, a time consuming and tedious task.
After that the jaws must be soaked in an
industrial peroxide solution for several days (extreme caution in
handling this fluid). Then they must be soaked in water for at least
another day and then dried for several more days, propped open with
sticks.
We also do extensive restoration of old and
damaged jaws, bringing them back to pristine condition.
![](Photos%20Shark%20Jaws/rick11_small.jpg)
As for pricing, we charge according to
the size of the jaw and the amount of restoration or repair needed. An
email with photos will allow a price quotation; shipping is charged to
the customer.

Here is the work done on the small great white
shark jaw we traded with Rick, he decided to re-work it.
![](Photos%20Shark%20Jaws/rick3_small.jpg)
Went ahead and soaked em for a day and a half.
The good news is I was able to whiten them up and even remove some excess
gum. The bad news is it will have to be repaired again in places but I
wanted to do that anyway. Drying time first though. "We can rebuild
him. Make him stronger, faster..."

By the way, I got the rest of those teeth out
and they are actually really good; not hollow but full fledged teeth, the
largest is a little over 1 and1/4th of an inch. When positioned properly
they look larger than the way I had them. I will need one tooth that is
lacking a good base. I can send that one to you to match.. I'd stick with
the originals but it's up to you. Another problem with larger teeth would
be fitting them in the existing jaw.
Here's Glenn (right) and Rick (left) taken
when Glenn picked up the jaw again.

They are done and I'm really happy with the
way they turned out. |
