FOSSIL DUSKY SHARK TOOTH NECKLACES

(Also known as the Shovelnose Shark).  The Dusky shark has triangular, serrated teeth up to 1-1/4".  This shark grows to 10 feet, is a shallow feeder, and a strong fighter when caught on line.  It eats flounder, starfish and squid, and is caught for shark fin soup (which we denounce), leather, and liver oil for vitamins.  Potentially dangerous due to size alone.

Average 1" long, silver wired, and include a 20" black suede necklace

$12 each

FOSSIL MACKEREL SHARK TEETH
NOTE:  THIS IS THE TYPE OF SHARK TOOTH NECKLACE WORN BY MILA KUNIS IN THE MOVIE: "FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL" in 2008

mackerelsharkphoto.JPG (26780 bytes)

(not to be mistaken for a "mackerel fish"...this is a SHARK.  Lamna Obliqua - extinct, Eocene period, 50 million years old, from the Khounbga Region of Morocco, North AFRICA (Sahara Desert).  Large shark with pointed snout and spindle shaped body, a fast swimmer with large sharp teeth, some with cusplets (small teeth on sides of cusp).  The fossil mackerel shark is very similar to the modern day sharks of this family (which includes the great white).  Estimated adult size:  12-15 feet, weight up to a ton (2000 pounds).  Notice the sand color, as they took on the color of the sand when they fossilized in it (remember, before it was desert, it was an ocean).  Here's a couple of photos of mackerel shark jaws:

FOSSIL GOBLIN SHARK TOOTH NECKLACES

One of the WEIRDEST sharks you will ever meet, it resembles its name.  A deepwater fish once thought to be extinct.  The teeth resemble sand shark teeth except for the striations (raised lines) down the enamel that distinguish it.  Photos of the Goblin shark:

Here is an excellent link to more info on the Goblin shark, updated with the paragraph below it:

http://www.elasmo.com/martin/goblin.html

The availability of Mitsukurina changed abruptly in April 2003.   Fishing off the northwest coast of Taiwan in 2000 feet of water, commercial fishermen started boating hundreds of goblins in the three to four meter range. These local fishermen were quite secretive with the details, but indicated that they were mostly males.  This is why you will occasionally see a goblin jaw for sale now, when it was thought to be extinct.
